The Danish Cancer Society’s Scientific Committee – Biology & Clinic (KBVU-BK) funds projects of biological, translational and clinical cancer research.

Scientists (also scientists working at the Danish Cancer Society's Research Center), who work with cancer research within the medical and scientific area, can apply for fellowships, scientific and technical assistance, machinery, working expenses etc. in relation to their projects.

The committee will like to see applications of high quality, which connects basic science with clinical science.

The Danish Cancer Society awards each year up to two 'Research Talent Awards' to support talented younger researchers who have made a special effort in Danish cancer research. The award is mainly awarded to young researchers who have shown extraordinary efforts and/or achieved results with important international breakthrough and attention.

The two awards are presented within ‘basic, biological and epidemiological cancer research’ and ‘clinical cancer research,’ respectively.

Each award is DKK 100,000 and will be presented at Danish Cancer Research Days in August.

Nominations are submitted in the application and reporting system. A signed PDF copy of the nomination should also be sent to the e-mail address below.

The Danish Cancer Society’s Scientific Committee – Biology & Clinic (KBVU-BK) supports young talents and their development in cancer research. Support is therefore awarded to younger researchers in the form of support for project-related expenses and postdoctoral fellowships.

Support for project-related expenses for establishing research careers
The purpose is to support the continued development of young independent cancer researchers who, within the last eight years, have obtained a PhD degree and demonstrated the ability to research at a high international level. The support is awarded to carry out excellent and ambitious projects in all aspects of cancer research, and the funds are allocated to researchers who have already shown their potential by obtaining support for their own salary, however, a 50% exemption from clinical work can be applied for.

Postdoctoral fellowship in Denmark or abroad
The purpose is to support younger researchers, with a PhD degree or equivalent, who have not yet obtained permanent employment, but who can document research experience in order to carry out an independent cancer research project in Denmark or abroad. A postdoctoral fellowship abroad is awarded to Danish researchers who go abroad on their own to carry out an independent cancer research project in order to gain knowledge and experience in an international research environment, but who are not employed at a Danish hospital, university or in a company during the stay abroad.

The Danish Cancer Society’s Scientific Committee – Biology & Clinic (KBVU-BK) funds stays abroad in connection with a cancer research project.

It is possible to apply for travel, freight, health insurance, and extra expenses. See the rates for extra expenses in the guideline: 'Vejledning til ansøgning om udlandsophold over 1 måned' (Guidelines for stays abroad exeeding 1 month' - only available in Danish).

In order to apply, use the form/application round called 'KBVU-BK stays abroad exceeding 1 month' in the application system.

The Danish Cancer Society’s Scientific Committee – Biology & Clinic (KBVU-BK) funds support for travelling and stays abroad in connection with work, e.g., meeting with collaborators, of up to 1 month's duration and attendance at meetings, where the applicants present their research results in the form of lectures or posters.

It is primarily younger researchers, such as PhD students, postdocs fellows, lecturers and younger doctors in training, who can obtain a grant.

In exceptional cases, support is granted to students, lecturers, senior consultants, professors, persons with no candidate degree and researchers, who work at a research institute abroad at the time of travel.

The Danish Cancer Society’s Scientific Committee – Biology & Clinic (KBVU-BK) funds scholarship stipend for students in connection with the completion of a cancer research project.

The scholarship stipend is personal and must be applied for by the student. A PhD student attending a training course and persons with a candidate degree cannot apply for a scholarship stipend.

The stipend is DKK 10,000 monthly, i.e., DKK 120,000 annually. It is not possible to obtain a scholarship stipend for more than one year.
